Knowing this is about to disappear in a few years time... Even small theaters all go digital. As much as i liked recording this new album on tape, i shure will miss the warmness of the 35mm, the sound it made passing on the maltese cross mechanics,the proper cinemascope on a screen and all of that.

Less Poetic than that,but this is broken. It just reminded me of that Low song,about giving up on your musical dreams and live a "normal" life,that i guess you could apply and transpose to any dream. BY THE TIME YOU REALISE IT'S LATE,I MIGHT BE ALREADY UNDERGROUND

Meet Nick Broste, Sam Johnson, Ellis Seiberling and Max Crawford who played Horns on the songs Underground,Underground and It's Late. I'll never be thankful enough for what these guys did in a few hours,and for Steve for phoning these guys up.
On the next day i would show up early in the morning at the studio to do some vocals,and first thing, Albini showed me that french video he found on Youtube late during the night. He said "Hey,when i saw that,i thought: that's exactly what we did yesterday",showing me the part where they work on the Horns arrangements.

The brand new song we recorded Yesterday is being mixed right now by Joe Chicharelli.
Overdubs and vocals were recorded yesterday,we had a blast doing that. Finished the lyrics at the last minute,old school style.
We had a drink with Eddie Kramer in the parc,who happened to be there,he told me how he loved Van Gogh,and said the song sounded great. Eddie fucking Kramer,can you believe that.
What a great place this studio is.

about to start the recording session with Joe Chicharelli,after one very good rehearsal day yesterday.
La Fabrique is an amazing studio. There are about 200 000 Vinyls in the building,and the studio's main room is surrounded by them.
Joe is amazing. He spent 6 hours working on the song with us yesterday,tapping on some floor toms,and having 5 ideas a second. The guy has made so many great records,it is sweet to see how passionate he is.

Nous nous apprêtons à démarrer la session d'enregistrement d'un nouveau titre avec Joe Chicharelli.
Le studio est incroyable,avec ses 200 000 vinyls aux murs,la principale pièce du studio en est d'ailleurs complètement entourée.
Très bonne journée de répétition du titre hier,avec un producteur qui a passé 6 heures à échanger et a travailler sur la chanson avec nous,en tapant sur des toms,et en ayant 5 idées par minute.
Impatient de mettre ça sur bande.

We've already told you about our signature with the record label Vietnam,founded by members of french football magazine So Foot. It is now with a great pleasure,that we can officially announce another collaboration with the Record Label BECAUSE.
The album will be called "Off The Map",as it is pretty much stories about maps,boundaries,territories and people. Before that Vietnam/Because will release an E.P in September,on Vinyl and Digital.

Feature it,or Fuck it

C'est toujours un moment crucial,que celui de choisir ses titres. Le mastering est arrivé,et nous en sommes ravis. Il faut maintenant faire face à la réalité de la taille d'un vinyl,et de la perte de qualité de son qui accompagne les faces trop remplies. Il faut donc enlever des chansons. Penser à leur seconde vie,si elles en ont une. Aux changements de faces,et au message à graver a l'intérieur du disque,puisque Bob Weston qui a le sens du détail,a la riche idée de proposer ça dans ses services,au moment de graver la matrice du Vinyl.
Mais voilà, ça devrait etre la bonne cette fois.

Demain,le mastering du disque sera effectué par les deux jeunes hommes sur la gauche de la photo,Steve Albini et Bob Weston,au studio de Mr Weston,et j'en suis fort honoré. Albini nous a proposé spontanément de participer activement au Mastering avec son comparse,et accompagne le disque jusqu'au bout,ce qui n'était pas du tout prévu,mais une fort bonne surprise,celà va sans dire. L'occasion de le remercier encore pour son implication dans tout ça. L'impatience du résultat se fait sentir. Le disque devrait contenir 14 titres, et durer 46 minutes.

Impatients de jouer toutes ces nouvelles chansons en live. Le plus tot sera le mieux. Pour le moment,c'est l'heure du tracklisting,et c'est toujours un casse tete.
Can't wait yo play these new songs live. The sooner,the better. In the meantime,it is tracklisting time,and it is always a hell of a maze.

Travailler avec Albini fut plus qu'un plaisir. Son influence sur le disque aura été plus que précieuse. Il ne se considère pas comme un producteur au sens brut du terme. J'avais lu ça et là qu'il voyait surtout les choses surtout d'un point de vue technique. Notre expérience de travail avec lui,aura été tout aussi musicale que technique; jour après jour au studio,son implication et sa précision dans la fabrication du disque devenant de plus en plus fortes,chaque remarque ou conseil toujours plus juste.

Working with Albini was great. His influence on that record has been more than precious. I was aware that he doesnt consider himself a producer. And that you have to know where you wanna go before entering his studio. I heard before, that he was mostly seeing things from the technical point of view. Our experience working with Steve,was as musical as it was technical. As the days would pass,he would be more and more precise and implicated in the making of that record.

Electrical Audio Day 3 : "Everyone ready? Ca roule"

3eme jour dèja à Belmont Avenue. Il neige à gros flocons. Le studio est un peu un temple du rock'n'roll,avec ses affiches,ses livres,ses films et ses fantomes. Albini ,notre  génial colocataire pour le séjour,et notre "engineer" dévoué,est plus qu'impliqué dans le processus,au point que 15 basic tracks sont dèja en boite. Il est plus que troublant de voir à quel point l'envie et la virginité de cet homme sont intactes après tant de disques.
